intensive weekend for 650 - oct. 30 and oct 31
morning
spent the morning packing for class - i put in my laptop, my cell phone, my pda and all my chargers. must remember to buy something for the potluck. note to self bring extra cd's. i left home with my backpack and my laptop (in a bag of course)
afternoon
worked with group on presentation. we did really well. even went to kinko's for binding. we did excellent. carol's group was by far the strongest management group - my personal opinion.
dinner
potluck dinner with lots of goodies. zhan and i went to pick up kfc. it was raining when we left and stopped a bit when we got back to campus. kfc rocks and thank god everyone eats chicken.
dessert and video
with brownies and other goodies in hand i went back to class with my classmates and sat down to watch a managment video that cost the school $1,000
first fire alarm - the fire alarm went off while we were watching the video so we all went outside. turns out the rain was absolutely horrendous. it was pouring cats and dogs . . . with giant poodles. hee hee we stood out there til we were permitted back in the building - andrew came running back and told us that it was ok to go back into the building.
second fire alarm - we were all back in the building & i was happily sitting in my seat with my yummy brownies when the emergency lights went out . . . . thank goodness a couple of my classmates had flashlights! then someone yelled that the water was coming in - i thought . . . interesting the drain cant take all that water . . . i left the classroom with everyone and expected to walk out of the fire exit AGAIN . . . but the water was really coming in . . . not puddles or a small stream - it was a river that was rising quickly - like the tide had come in . . . we couldnt get to the fire exit at all - the door to the alcove was blocked and the water was up to our ankles at that point . . . marta yelled that we had to break a window. . . i remember andrew running to the window and trying to find a latch - i honestly remember saying 'i dont think there are latches.' marta said to break a window again and i thought someone would try to do that . . . the water was rising and marta said to break a window . . . i had images of fish tanks and floating bodies and clinging to my classmates in my mind . . . . i heard lori say that she couldn't breathe . . . i looked for something to break the window with . . . THANK GOD there was a stool next to me . . . that's when i put my laptop on the table (said goodbye to it - i knew i'd have to leave it behind) to get a good grip on the stool . . . i remember grabbing it with both hands - yelling 'watch out!' and hitting the window til it broke . . . if i'm gonna die - i'm gonna die fighting damn it. thank god i broke though - i was going to break the shards out of the way but these hands (Jay) grabbed the stool and said that i was ok. we all got out just in time.
outside there was water everywhere . . . waist high and we were surrounded . . . marta's car was underwater and i drove her home where we had a nice glass of wine and some cigarettes. who knew that wine and smokes could be so calming? well once i was calmed down - i drove home thinking about the KFC that was floating in the diner.
when i got home - i hugged my mom and kissed baby and went to sleep.
i fell asleep thinking about floating tupperware, whether my AACR2 would survive, and how the hell am i going to explain breaking a window - that's vandalism!
